Interior designer Liz Borecky represented BDG Architects at NeoCon, the largest commercial interiors show in North America. She visited 72 different showrooms at Chicago’s 4-million square foot Merchandise Mart as well as the exhibit hall with several hundred manufacturers’ booths.
The convention marked its 50th anniversary in 2018 and in many ways, it was a celebration of the future with a huge nod to its mid-century roots. Biophilic design was on full display with the use of organic shapes and warm, natural materials. Acoustics was a popular topic, with felt featured everywhere from fabrics to wallcoverings and even lighting. In addition to a variety of neutral and earth-toned colors, bright accents in coral and celadon green were prominent in many exhibits.
